Miss Africa USA represents all 53 African Countries in the United States and serves as an ambassador for change. For Nyasha Zimucha, earning the title of Miss Africa USA meant much more than winning a sash and a crown; it meant that she would represent the world’s second-largest and second most-populous continent.

This is what made Nyasha view her title as a responsibility. A native of South Africa, she has devoted her efforts to fi ghting xenophobia by founding the GlobalCitizen Campaign and spreading the message of ubuntu. The word “ubuntu” comes from the the Zulu language and is translated as “humanity.” The
philosophy behind ubuntu is based upon a person having a greater
sense and understanding of community and humanity as a whole.
Nyasha’s homestate hero, Nelson Mandela taught her the importance
of ubuntu. She hopes the campaign will raise xenophobia awareness
worldwide and promote unity and understanding by teaching people of
all races and nationalities to live as global citizens.
