For Nyasha Zimucha, earning the title of Miss Africa USA meant much more than winning a sash and a crown; it meant that she would represent the world’s second-largest and second most-populous continent, not an easy job. But that’s exactly what has kept her on track-viewing her title as Miss Africa USA as a responsibility. A native of South Africa, she has devoted her efforts to fighting xenophobia by founding the GlobalCitizen Campaign and spreading the message of ubuntu. The word “ubuntu” comes from the the Zulu language and is translated as “humanity.” The philosphy behind ubuntu is based upon a person having a greater sense and under-standing of community and humanity as a whole.
Nyasha hopes the campaign will raise xenophobia awareness worldwide and promote unity and understanding by teaching people of all races and nationalities to live as global citizens. The three main components of the campaign are a t-shirt line, benefit concert in South Africa and book drive.
